I moved into my new place this month (that has less closet space). Because of this I had to take a serious look at the clothes I was keeping. I had no idea I had that much. And this is a good time for you to do the same. As we all know trends change and it’s hard to know what to keep and what to throw out, but this last month I think I have gotten close to getting a system down that won’t have you regretting what you discarded.
- Does it fit? For example, I have long legs and I had a few jeans and dress pants that looked great on me as long as I wore certain shoes. I got rid of them. I’m sure some of you may have jackets that are a little too short in the arms, or a skirt that is a little to short for your liking. If you haven’t worn them in a least two years, let it go.
- Does it fit my career? If your job dictates what you wear as so many of ours do, don’t hold on to the things you never wear but wish you could wear at work.
- Is it you? You know that pink fuzzy angora sweater you bought because it was cute and on clearance? It looked great in your closet, but every time you put it on you feel stupid. You probably do. Get rid of it.
- Shoes. As women we have shoes that go with lots of outfits. As women we also have those shoes back in our closets that are cute but we never wear because they hurt our feet. Be honest with yourself, those shoes aren’t going to feel like sneakers, and life is too short to have your feet hurting. Let them walk!
- Things that don’t go with anything. Yes, I am a victim of this. I don’t know how many times I put on this skirt and sweater set and realized I couldn’t wear it because I didn’t have the proper shirt or shoes. If you have this issue, try to get the appropriate things to go with it or chalk it up to an over zealous purchase.
- Last but not least, get rid of worn items or get them repaired.
