Cocktail Bathing – Serious Pool Posing

This season’s swimwear is stylishly retro and glamorous. The 1940s and 1950s were times of sophisticated and dazzling style. Easier times when a haircut cost two dollars and a press n’ curl cost three dollars and fifty cents. Times when everyone wore upsweeps, French rolls, pompadours and Marcelle waves. Beautiful faces were designed with penciled eyebrows, bright red lipstick, false eyelashes and the popular curled and pinned hair, like the  head-turning femme fatales of the film Noire era. Hair was so important to your complete look in the 50s that no woman wanted to get her hair wet when swimming. With care, they covered their pressed and curled hairstyles with a swimming cap or bathing cap, holding their head away from the water and gliding from pool end to pool end.  Keeping hair dry became fashionable with lavish bathing caps covered in flowers.

The classic one-piece is an unmistakable trend, curve-hugging and flattering the lines of your silhouette. Reminiscent of sizzlers such as Nina Mae McKinney, Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, and Fredi Washington, this season’s swimwear is sure to be striking.
