She has styled celebrities such as Jimmy Akingbola, actor of ‘Bel Air’, a reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; presenter and producer Ama K. Abebrese, among others. Her work expands beyond styling notable persons for the red carpet, though. This fashion stylist had stints in editorial and contributed to several fashion, beauty, lifestyle and culture publications. Some of them include Glossy magazine, Story magazine and Dirrty Glam magazine, where she worked as an editor. Marian Kwei, formerly Kihogo, stepped onto the fashion scene in 2005 and has since been listed as an influence on fashion.
The spark
“My love of the beautiful inspired me to work in fashion and to style. I loved magazines and the images of beautiful garments and accessories in them held me enthralled. I loved images in Vogue and ELLE like the sketches of Manolo Blahnik,” Kwei professes.
She adds, “I wanted to write for magazines and platforms because I loved fashion and so wanted to be a part of it. This was what led me to fashion and styling.”
But fashion and styling aren’t the only things that keep her busy. Kwei consults for brands and offers a variety of branding services to help them achieve desired results.
A major project she’s embarked on, dubbed ‘Marian Styles’, will offer complimentary styling services to persons affected by cancer or bullying. This was inspired by her interest to give back and make an impact in two areas that are close to home for her: She was bullied as a teen and both of her parents are cancer survivors. She has also lost a sister to cancer.
What other aspirations are in the works for this British-Ghanaian Vogue and Forbes featured fashion stylist?
“I would like to launch a fashion brand and hope to do so soon,” she reveals.
And we’re so here for it.
