10 Times Chimamanda N. Adichie Slayed Made in Nigeria Clothes

One of the most vocal feminists on the African continent is on a mission, and it’s one that we love. She dubs it ‘Wear Nigerian’, a project that not only demonstrates her great sense of style but also showcases designs of Nigeria’s budding garment and textile industry.

The project, which kicked off on Instagram on April 6, 2017, has so far been a display of the author’s elegant style designed by Nigerians designers. Each Instagram post caption sends a shout out to the local designer.

In a Facebook post about the project, Adichie explains:

“The Nigerian government’s disastrous economic policies have led to a reduction in the value of the Naira and therefore in disposable income…If we are to grasp for a silver lining, then the ‘Buy Nigerian to Grow Naira’ rhetoric is one. In that spirit, I recently decided to wear mostly Nigerian brands for my public appearances….”
