When Obaasema first launched as an online magazine in 2006 and print in 2008 for African women, it was on the premise of filling a void that was much needed in the Diaspora: To make available a free publication that inspired and empowered young African women. Today, there are several and others are springing up to champion various causes including celebrating the African woman and more. It is for this reason that Obaasema Magazine, now a 100% digital zine, will be narrowing down its focus to the modern Ghanaian woman and women inspired by Ghana.
After three years of quiet presence in Ghana, we believe that a shift in focus will help us accomplish our core mission of inspiring and empowering women to search deep within their souls for the “ideal woman” within them. This time, however, we wish to start from a country with an incredible variety of sub-cultures – Ghana.
We still hope to see and become part of a solution where women are concerned in this world, but this time, we’d like to represent the Ghanaian woman. We will still strive to be a voice that reaches out to women facing pressures of the world today, but this time, we’d like to begin with the Ghanaian woman and work our way up to the rest of the world. Although Ghanaian women will be our primary focus we may, from time to time, throw in some incredible work by other African women.
Our dream remains: To assist and educate the woman who wishes to promote herself through our inspirational articles. We wish to unite Ghanaian women in helping each other reach our goals by representing ourselves in the best way possible.
Do you still desire to ride with us on this journey? Well, there is space for you so come on aboard!
