Best And Easiest Way To Manage Natural Hair

It is a misconception that natural hair can be treated with less than the utmost care and that it will not get damaged. Just because the hair texture is curly doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be gentle when handling it. Many natural textures tend to be very fragile. Though the hair is curly the individual strands tend to be fine. Also because of the curl pattern there is more friction when combing/brushing.

The best practice for curly heads to incorporate into their hair care routine is a co-wash. This is simply conditioning the hair prior to shampooing. I suggest using conditioner mixed with a natural oil such as coconut or olive oil. Co-washing allows you to detangle hair (hair should only be combed wet with conditioner in it); the oil and conditioner act as a buffer during the shampooing process, thus, keeping the hair from getting dried out.

After hair is freshly washed it is always best to apply some natural oils before styling products are applied (this does not apply to natural hair that is going to be blown straight). Finally, develop the habit of placing hair in a couple twists/plaits and covering with a silk or satin scarf. This is another way to ensure that the hair retains as much of its natural moisture as possible.
