Dream Killers – What is Your Purpose?

To dream or not to dream?  To some people there is no point of having a dream, let alone pursuing that dream?  Trust me, when you have no support and all odds are against you, the will to keep pushing on becomes very difficult and sometimes impossible to attain your dreams.  I really believe the top three dream killers are as follows: living outside of your purpose, negative thoughts (especially the word “can’t”), and last but not least, negative people. I hope that by the end of this article, you can get to see that there is hope.  All of us have a specific purpose in life.  Just because you may not yet know your purpose does not mean you do not have one

So what do I mean by living outside of your purpose?  Each of us has a specific purpose to fulfill here on earth.  My purpose is not the same as any other person’s so that means no two people necessarily have the same purpose.  When you live outside of your purpose, no matter how educated and successful you are, you will always feel a void.  The good news is that there is someone who can tell and guide us into our purpose.  Just as a car has a builder and manual, so do we.  The only one who can show you your purpose is God and He has also given us the Bible as a guideline.  Do not get me wrong, God can use other people to help you discover your true purpose;  spend some time with Him and let Him guide you into your true purpose.  At the end of the day, living outside of your purpose will eventually make you miserable and have a negative impact on your dreams.

Once you have discovered this purpose, it is time to put it into action. One of the most dangerous things that can halt or have an unhealthy effect as far as living in your purpose is constant negative thinking. Now I understand we are human and may not completely get rid of negative thoughts, but we can attempt with the help of God.  Negative thoughts can and will eventually creep up in your actions in addition to affecting your overall performance in life. Sometime back in school, I learned that for each negative thought or negative phrase, it takes about 27 positive phrases to counteract the original negativity.  This blew me away.  It shows how damaging negativity can be not only to others, but to us.  So each day, consider making an effort to think more positively about yourself than you did the day before and if you fall short, it is ok, just keep on trying.  You deserve what is best in life and God wants you to have just that.

Do you realize that negative people can eventually kill your dreams?  I know people come into our lives for a reason, but there comes a point when you have to let certain people go.  If you hold onto them any longer than you need to, you will only cause more unnecessary problems.  There are people who are only known to be constant complainers and to top it off, they always have something negative to say.  Do you know anyone like that? Re-evaluate your life and any necessary weeding you need to do and ask God for the strength to do it.  Some people may take it personally, but you have to do what is best for you; in the long run it will pay off.  Remember, your mission is to fulfill your purpose and you should not let anything or anyone distract you.

There is a lot of greatness ahead of you.  Do not let living outside of your purpose, negative thoughts, and negative people stop you from being the best God has ordained you to be.  You have a lot to offer that no one else can do, but you.  Keep in mind that it may take some time for you to get to your destination, but you will get there eventually.  Claim the promise of Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
