Rose Essential Oil

Valentine’s Day may have passed, but you don’t have to use that as an excuse to deprive yourself of the rich, sensual aroma of roses. This rich and sweet, yet spicy fragranced “flower of love,” is not only reserved for romantic moments and other celebratory events; it goes as far as soothing our bodies.

Despite its constant association with love, rose was initially known to symbolize confidence in ancient times. For instance, roses hung over meeting tables in those times meant the gathering would be held in strict confidence.  Some common attributions include fertility, joy, and pleasure with each color representing something different: red symbolizes passion and desire; white symbolizes innocence and purity; pink symbolizes simplicity, happiness, and love; yellow symbolizes achievement or jealousy.

Rose essential oil has been used to relieve pains of fever blisters and cold sores.  Known to reduce coughs, clear congestion, and alleviate sore throats, it would be an essential member of your alternative medicine cabinet during the cold winter months. Rose oil can even be used to strengthen the digestive system and may help ridding off constipation, vomiting, and nausea. If you experience constant migraine and headaches, you may want to give this oil a try as it is believed to ward off such symptoms.

It is also said to have the ability to balance female hormones and controls the menstrual cycle while reducing cramps associated with Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). Rose oil reduces inflammation caused by such skin disorders as psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis among others.

When it comes to skin care, it is a great moisturizer for all skin types. Its ability to compress small blood vessels helps reduce redness of broken capillaries. Its water form is also recommended for skin toning and facial mist.

For emotional benefits, it is believed to nurture the heart and promotes feelings of love and trust. It is also able to ward off depressive moods, anxiety, and panic, while elevating your spirit and reducing stress and tension. It soothes the nerves and aids in fending off hyperactivity and insomnia. Last but not least, rose oil diminishes feelings of jealousy, disappointment, and resentment, giving way to euphoric ones.

This essential oil proves to be more than just a soothing agent for the body considering its great topical effects. As costly as pure essential oils may be, it would not hurt to give it a try.
