It is interesting how easy it is to get caught up in life activities and fail to appreciate the little things that make life beautiful. Most people are in a haste to be successful and may love the fame, hype about their personalities and what they do. In the midst of all this, however, it’s important to understand life and how it works.
I recently engaged in a fulfilling, thought-provoking conversation with my Dad that I believe is worth consuming this holiday season.
He advised and I paraphrase: My Son, don’t chase after the wind. It is important to pay attention to the little things in life that you cannot buy or invent. Success is not all that you see and read. Success is more about being significant, making a positive impact in your generation. Live a balanced life and think about others more than yourself because you were made for others.
He went on to share three important things he wished he knew and had invested more of his life into when he was at his peak as a young business man. He said:
- Value your faith in God because this is the master key to your destiny.
- Value your family because they are a free gift from nature. God is a family person so must you be.
- Value your friends because these ones are rare but find and keep them. They will be there for you in your tough moments.
I believe it’s important to pay attention to the little things that make life worth living; love the undeserved, show compassion to the powerless, give hope to the hopeless. There is more hunger in the world for love than food because the basic need of every soul is unconditional love and acceptance.
In the spirit of Christmas, let us strive to invest in the “little” things we take for granted.
