Dry Feet: Simple Home Remedies For Caring For Them

When the feet are neglected over time, they begin to look exactly like this: dry and cracked. Since they lack oil glands, they tend to get dehydrated easily and cause dryness. Because of this, it’s important to practice good foot-care and ensure they’re always moisturized. Incorporating foot soaks into your skin care routine is a great start to your foot-care journey. Here’s a simple DIY remedy for you to try at home.

What you need:
  • ½ Bottle antiseptic mouthwash
  • Pumice stone
  • Shea butter
  • Pair of socks
  • Warm water
What to do:
  1. Soak your feet in warm water and half a bottle of antiseptic mouthwash for 15 minutes
  2. Gently buff off dead skin with a pumice stone. Don’t scrub them while they’re dry as this could cause skin damage.
  3. Dry feet and apply a generous amount of shea butter
  4. Wrap each foot in cling film (not too tight) and wear a pair of socks
  5. Allow to stay overnight
Frequency:

2x a week for 4 weeks to treat dry feet. Once your feet are back to normal, twice a month should suffice.

For consistency and maintenance of foot moisture, develop a skin care routine that involves applying moisturizing cream or oil on your foot every night. Some natural moisturizers that work well include shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil. You can also wear soft, loose indoor slippers when at home as an additional layer of protection to prevent constant friction between your foot and the floor.
