Carolina Herrera: African Models in the Fall 2022 Collection.

Venezuelan fashion designer, Carolina Herrera, is well known for her sophisticated, exquisite, chic and classic looks. She has styled notable clients including former first lady of the United States of America, Jacqueline Kennedy, popularly known for her great taste in fashion. Other first ladies she has dressed include Michelle Obama and Melania Trump. It’s quite interesting to see the level of diversity in the designer’s choice of models for her shows. In fact, as a woman of color herself, it makes sense that she will use her platform to promote others. We’re excited to announce that at least five African models were featured in her Fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection.

While other women of color were present, we spotted some from Kenya, South Sudan and Nigeria. It’s refreshing to see a growing number of African models penetrating the international modeling scene. Burberry, Chanel, Dior and several other international fashion giants have been increasingly including African models in their line ups.

Let’s take a look at those who appeared in Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2022 collection.

Caren Jepkemei is Kenyan, and she has modeled for iconic brands like Saint Laurent, Michael Kors, Maison Valentino and Balmain among others.
Nyagua Ruea has been spotlighted as one of a few emerging models that will be taking over the global scene. This South Sudanese has walked the runway for Alexander McQueen, MaxMara, Schiaparelli and others.
Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Maison Valentino and Loewe are just a few of the brands Nigerian model, Victoria Fawole, has featured in.
Awar Odhiang is a Kenyan-Canadian who has modeled for Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and Balmain among others.
Besides Carolina Herrera, South Sudanese, Priscilla Adit, has featured in other global fashion brands. She modeled for Chanel’s latest 2021/2022 Métiers d’art collection, which became available in Italian boutiques on June 8th.
