It’s a new year and you may have already set, defined and actioned some resolutions – trying to lose that weight, be more disciplined, stop procrastinating, live healthier or be more spiritual. The thought of your long list of goals could be overwhelming or exciting, depending on your desired results and where you are in life. But regardless, it’s crucial to remember that you’re trying to create a lifestyle not win a race. As a result, your approach must be purposeful and gradual. We have highlighted a few steps to help you make those resolutions stick this year.
Don’t try to change too many things at once
This will help you avoid rushing the process and handling each goal with purpose.
Strive to create a ritual instead of instant results
Repetition and consistency are key to creating rituals. The more you repeat an action, the more it sticks.
Consider establishing small habits that are possible to create.
Bad habits can easily be created but good ones require just a little push. Start behaviors that are beneficial to your physical and mental health. Take things one day at a time and you’ll find that over time, you’re able to kill two birds with one stone by attaining discipline and self-control in the process.
Celebrate little successes because they all contribute to the end goal.
Cut yourself some slack and remember that you don’t have to be perfect at it. If you achieved 60%, though that may not be the goal, go ahead and pat yourself on the back for encouragement. You’re your biggest fan.
Change your environment.
If your goal is to incorporate meditation into your morning routine and yet everything in the space you plan to use for it discourages the activity, make decisions and changes that will accommodate your goals.
