Spiritual Journey: What is it and how to Embark on one

Everyone is on some form of spiritual journey – a personal quest undertaken by the person who is willing. But what exactly is it?

The connection

A spiritual journey is a journey a person undertakes at the point of self-awareness, which is the ability to reflect on your internal workings. This includes your thoughts, thought patterns, emotions, and so on.

This quest extends beyond religious beliefs into authentic healing. It is where you begin to explore yourself, life, and the many possibilities you may now realize. You might begin to notice how the world is abundant, because there’s no room for small-minded thinking. There’s no desire to be competitive because there is enough for everyone. And there are no limits to achieving what you want.

What is healing?

Healing can be focused on moving past your childhood conditioning. This means the things your parents or guardian taught you to believe in as a child, how to behave, and what you learned from those around you and the media. Healing means interpreting situations based solely on reality instead of one that is filtered through the lens of your past traumas. Imagine you could see reality as it is instead of telling yourself stories of childhood hurt to justify your reactions or feelings or thoughts to present events. Instead of overthinking, you can calm your mind. Which in turn means finding peace both internally and externally.

Peace and love

Everyone seeks to find peace and happiness in their lives. It’s a common human goal. And at the heart of this journey is just that—peace, and love. It is the understanding that each of us is imperfectly perfect, meaning that we make mistakes. We all have flaws, but that doesn’t make us any less of a person. Forgiveness and self-compassion are qualities that may naturally arise. A need to love and care for yourself, and in turn others. There is a quote which roughly states that you cannot fully love others unless you love yourself. This may be because being able to easily forgive yourself for your shortcomings will also make you see the humanity in others too. They are not faultless either. Everyone is doing the best they can to survive.

That’s where spiritual journey and personal growth intertwine. Personal growth is the various techniques or activities that you use to understand yourself, improve your behavior, build better habits, or fulfill your highest potential. By going on a spiritual journey, you can discover who you truly are. Your personalities are ever-changing. This means you may not be able to base who you are on something as unstable as that.

Discovering who you truly are requires you to put down your weapons. This means your defensiveness or resistance to deconditioning yourself. It requires you to be aware enough to truly listen and learn from both others and your internal compass, or guidance system.
